As you may already know, the UK Government will be testing its National Emergency Alert system on 07 September at approximately 15:00. This is unconnected to AWE and West Berkshire Council’s Emergency Text Alert capability.
During the test mobiles or tablets may vibrate and emit a siren-like sound, even in silent mode. The system is designed to alert relevant areas of the UK to events which may pose a risk or harm to that area, e.g. flooding, fire, extreme weather.
This is a system test only; no action will be required.
It is possible for people to opt out of this service if, for example, safeguarding measures require that a particular mobile phone should not be contacted unexpectedly.
